KIKO | Project outline

Germany's energy transition is a unique process, both in terms of scale and complexity. The nuclear industry finds itself in a challenging position - on the one hand, it is seen as part of a solution for an immense energy hunger also driven by AI - which is ironically supposed to be a part of the solution to speeding up the processes of (de-)commissioning itself (cf. project Alisa34).

The current path is clear: The world is evolving fast into a hybrid environment and progresses through the means of collective intelligence (CI) as humans work in tandem with AI which increasingly gathers more autonomy in decision-making, planning and analysis.

KIKO will aim at utililzing modern CI tools to bridge the knowledge gap in the nuclear industry by empowering organisations to
a) onboard new personell via AI and
b) conserve important knowledge of stakeholders in so-called digital twins which will then function as tutors in learning environments.

Based on a large curated data corpus containing all of the important information wrt. nuclear safety and decommissioning, we will create a learning platform in which users will be capable of teaching themselves about these topics with the help of machine learning. By employing open-source models, AI tools will be built to analyze, reflect and feedback on users' learning progress.

In structured interviews and by carefully examining tacit knowledge from experts in the energy / nuclear domain, KIKO will create sophisticated digital twins of these experts which will then autonomously traverse the learning platform and support users on their learning paths.

Lastly, KIKO will examine the human performance of this novel learning and teaching AI-guided methodology by extensive laboratory tests using EEG-measuring of human brain activity in order to ensure that users are neither over- nor underchallenged.

To ensure, these autonomous AI tools remain safe and aligned with the goals of humanity, the GAIA Lab will create neurosymbolic algorithms keeping autonomous AIs in check and the human in the driver’s seat.
